WordPress is an open source blogging tool and can be used as dynamic content management system(CMS) based on PHP and MYSQL. It was first released on May 27, 2003, by founders Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little as a fork of b2/cafelog. WordPress is used by over 16.7% of Alexa Internet’s “top 1 million” websites and as of August 2011 manages 22% of all new websites.
Here, are few reasons why wordpress is one of the most popular open source till now:
- Though WordPress was introduced as a blogging platform it has come a long way and has become a very comprehensive Content Management System and now, powers lots of websites including business sits, job/news portals and other many areas.
- WordPress is easy to install and use and moreover we can get it for free.
- WordPress consists of large number of plugins available most of which are available for free from WordPress.org. These plugins can be used to extend the feature of core WP as we required providing WordPress(WP) with no limitation and bounds.
- One of the major advantage of WordPress is the wonderful WordPress Community. They’re the people who help you when you get stuck and contribute their time on new updates, themes and plugins. I must say WordPress would never be on this stage without its active community.
